Katie Pickard lives and works in her studio in North London. Her passion for wide open spaces and landscapes is a direct contrast with her life in the city, where she also works as a jazz musician. She uses the subject matter of landscape to project a need to manipulate and organize her visual world. It also visually represents a desire for what is wild, vast, sublime and mysterious. She previously spent four years working in the Peloponnesse in Greece, painting plain air and studying the effects of light and time. Her interest is not only in the subject matter, but also in the possibilities created in the effects of paint on the surface of the canvas, using texture and spontaneous methods to capture a natural and vibrant effect.
